Committee

Chair

Secretary

Hello, I’m James, I’m a second year History student, and I’m your club Secretary for 2011-12. In my role at Swansea Labour Students, it is my responsibility to create an agenda for every meeting, record minutes of our meetings and inform you, our wonderful members, on what’s going on whether it be via text, E-Mail or Facebook!

The son of a Welsh miner, I became involved in this movement at a young age, and when I came to University, I felt that I should join The Labour Party as a member, not just simply a supporter. The reason that I joined the Labour Party, is because I believe in the values of fairness for all; social justice and equality. As a socialist, I take great pride in these values, and find that they are reflected by The Labour Party.

With ‘ConDem’ cuts hitting working families hard across the UK, now is the right time to get involved. Only through Labour can we truly build the New Jerusalem, and the fairer society that we all desire.

Campaigns and Membership

Treasurer

Swansea’s friendly neighbourhood Labourite and republican. I joined Labour in September, 2010, following on from the election of Ed Miliband and have since fallen in love with the party. I’m a supporter of everything Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper, of whom are currently my favourite political power couple (Sally and John Bercow coming in a close second). I have a keen interest in American politics and have campaigned on the democrat doorstep for Barack Obama in 2008.

As Treasurer of our club I am committed to managing our finances in such a way that we maintain success in our political endeavours. Unlike the Cut-Back Crew of Osbourne and Cameron, I will be financing our other officer’s initiatives to ensure growth and success. I look forward to the upcoming year, as we face Local elections in Swansea and the rest of Wales, and especially to working with you on the Labour doorstep.

Women's Officer

Hi, my name’s Sarah and I’m your Women’s Officer this year!

  • Loves: rugby, a nice cuppa tea, sleep, the Labour Party (obviously!).
  • Hates: marmalade (eurgh!), rain, being told what to do or being told I can’t do something.

After graduating last year here in Swansea, this year I’ll be a postgrad translation student. You can probably find me in the library snoozing under a pile of dictionaries or over in JC’s with a coffee (!).

I want to break down boundaries and stereotypes this year and prove that politics is NOT just a man’s world. Keep an eye out for details of Women’s workshops, socials and University-wide events. If you have any questions or issues, please get in touch with me!
